The world is full of noise. Many are exhausted by the cacophony and chaos of the modern, digital age, where peace is scarce and self-reflection is infrequent. In The Digital Examen, a podcast from IVP, author and pastor Jay Y. Kim converses with a variety of leaders, pastors, and scholars who are working to reorient their lives in the direction of listening, tuning their hearts and minds to hear the voice of God in all of its clarity, kindness, and strength.

What does it mean to slow down and hear from God amid the noise and pace of the digital age? “Like many these days, I often find myself overwhelmed by the chaos of the digital age—so much frenzy, so little peace,” says host Jay Y. Kim. “My hope is that the The Digital Examen will offer people not only a learning experience but an invitation into stillness, with God, as we slow down enough to listen as much as we learn."
In the first season of The Digital Examen, Kim engages in conversations with pastors, writers, and scholars like John Mark Comer, Rich Villodas, Carmen Imes, John Ortberg, Felicia Wu Song, Tim Mackie, and more. These discussions with guests cover themes including reflection, contemplation, spiritual formation and disciplines, faithful engagement with technology, and creating and sustaining fruitful rhythms of life.
For the show’s second season, guests like Ruth Haley Barton, Ashlee Eiland, Glenn Packiam, Steve Cuss, Andy Crouch, and others join Kim to affirm that God is always present and speaking. Together, they help listeners pause and notice God with the entirety of their beings—heart, soul, mind, strength—in both the mundane and majestic moments of everyday life.
Slowing down in a culture of speed isn’t easy. Noticing in an age of distraction might be even harder. But walking intentionally with God happens at the pace of peace, leading us to that which often feels elusive: joy and delight. In season three of The Digital Examen podcast, host Jay Y. Kim joins an array of writers, educators, artists, and theologians to explore the many gifts God offers just beneath the surface of our frenzied lives, often hidden in plain view. Together, we’ll discover that a life marked by joy and delight is available to any and all who would slow down and notice.

Meet the Host
Jay Y. Kim
Jay Y. Kim serves as lead pastor at WestGate, a multicongregational church in Silicon Valley. He is the host of IVP's Digital Examen podcast and the author of several books, including Analog Christian, Analog Church, andListen Listen Speak. Jay serves on the board of Practicing the Way and has spent two decades in local church ministry, all in the San Francisco Bay Area, serving as a teaching pastor and church planter over the years. Jay lives in Silicon Valley with his wife Jenny and their two children.
